Tucked away in North County San Diego is Lakehouse Hotel & Resort, San Diego’s hidden gem hotel. This lakeside oasis is a quick drive North, but it feels like a world away. We had the pleasure of staying for the weekend while in San Marcos for a wedding and got to experience the incredible amenities the resort has to offer. Here’s everything you need to know about this San Diego getaway spot!
San Diego Getaway: The Location
It’s rare to find lakefront property in Southern California, but Lakehouse Hotel offers the perfect weekend oasis. If you’re not a beach person or want a change of pace, hanging by the lake was incredibly relaxing. For the weekend, I almost forgot we were still in San Diego.
What to Expect in Your Room
With cozy rooms and a relaxing vibe, we felt right at home. The rooms were incredibly spacious and dog-friendly. While Kiwi didn’t join us on this trip, it’s nice to know he could tag along in the future. Rooms feature Egyptian cotton linen sheets, luxurious robes, and a coffee station for grabbing a morning cup.
The Food & Drinks Situation
Nothing’s better than staying at a hotel with incredible on-site dining options. Sometimes, when traveling, I prefer staying on the resort grounds rather than venturing into the city for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Thankfully, Lakehouse offers incredible bites, meals, and drinks on the property.
There are 3 on-site dining options:
- The Grill Restaurant & Bar – Golf course-side dining for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
- Canteen Coffee – Coffee, to-go lunch, and snacks.
- Amalfi Cucina – Amalfi-inspired Italian cuisine.
Bonus: Complimentary S’mores Kit – The hotel has cozy camp-by-the-lake vibes, so it was a lovely touch to find a complimentary S’mores kit in our room when we arrived at the hotel. We enjoyed it after our dinner at Amalfi at the fire pits by the pool.
Amalfi Cucina
I can’t say enough great things about this restaurant. Amalfi’s authentic Italian food is unmatched. Don’t sleep on the Bruschetta, Campione pizza, a variety of pasta and your choice of sauce, and, of course, an Amalfi Spritz.
Pro Tip: This place is a local favorite, so make sure to book your reservation weeks in advance, especially if you plan on attending over the weekend.
Hotel Amenities & Features
- Complimentary Beach Cruisers: One of my favorite features of Lakehouse is the complimentary beach cruisers. You can explore the entire property by bike, which we found was an easy and fun way to travel.
- Water Activities: Lakehouse’s full-service marina offers a ton of fun water activities like boat rentals, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and pontoons. Also, if you’re into fishing, you can rent gear.
- Golf Course: They have two 18-hole golf courses, a driving range, and a grill for post-golf dining. And if you’re starting out or looking to learn, the resort offers the Golf Academy with lessons and clinics.
Seasonal Events
There’s something new every month at Lakehouse Hotel & Resort in San Marcos. In December, the hotel puts on the Lakeside Igloo Dining Experiences, the perfect activity to enjoy wine, charcuterie, and immaculate holiday vibes.
